12 vecí, ktoré už nekupujem

Naturally, since I became more interested in minimalism, I stopped buying many things. And for the simple reason – I found out I didn’t need them. We live in a world where ads and marketing campaigns give us the feeling that only when we buy their products we’ll really be happy – all you have to do is look at the products they offer to you through teleshopping; and what horrible lives have the poeple who have to slice carrots with an ordinary knife and how all their problems are lost when they buy a unique slicer, with which they get a second one for free.
But you don’t need many of these things to achieve happiness and satisfaction; and I don’t personally need many more that only take up space and they don’t make me feel good. There are twelve of them – and in this article I will show them to you.

Clothing

I have already written about how I stopping buying clothes in the article I Don’t Buy Clothes Anymore. And the situation has not changed – I don’t feel the need to spend the whole afternoon in a shopping centre and digging between the shelves. I only go to the clothing store when I really need something and I have no substitute for it.

Makeup and nail polish

I used to enjoy going shopping for make-up. A few years ago, I was completely overwhelmed by this YouTube community, literally breathing one video after another and wishing I had the same collection at home. I’m still trying to minimize my current collection of eight products (including three lipsticks) – and the only thing I buy from this category are new products of the same product after I use it up.
And I don’t buy nail polish anymore – during high school I was still painting my nails, but somehow I found that it just created another tasks for me to do; and so I quit. And I don’t even have one bottle of nail polish now.

Beauty products

When it comes to skin care, I use only five products, some of them occasionally. And that’s how I like it. I no longer have three face masks, try different skin lotions, and feel no need to test any new moisturizer. I have found simple, zero waste and natural products that fulfill their role and my skin is fully satisfied with them. I don’t need anything else.

Disposable products

After switching to zero waste (or when I started to try to live a zero waste life), I stopped buying many products that are intended for single use only – such as cotton rounds, plastic bags, napkins and so on. For all I have found an alternative that is from sustainable sources and I can use it over and over again. Or I found out that I really didn’t need it at all.

Bottled water

I have never been among those who buy large quantities of water packaged in plastic bottles. But I didn’t really care to avoid them altogether. If I was suddenly thirsty outside, I bought a bottle of mineral water in the store. Today I’m careful about it – and if I go somewhere and know that I’ll be out for some time, I throw my stainless steel bottle into my bag.

Books and magazines

When I was younger, my big dream was to have a library with a thousand books. And today I only laugh at it. Although I also love to hold a physical book in my hand, I love holding paper sheets and the smell, but it’s much more practical for me to read books in digital form. It’s easier and cheaper. I don’t even want to know how much money I spent on books in the past; and especially those I have never read and they just sit on my shelf.

Notebooks, diaries & pens

I used to love notebooks. I could have had twenty of them, and it still wasn’t enough. The beautiful patterns, the idea of writing in my dreams, goals or homework in mind, and the bargain price have made me collect a good number of notebooks – today I used up a lot of them or I gave them away. I don’t buy new ones because I know it’s not worth it – and I write down important things on my phone or laptop.

Decor

Do not get me wrong – I too drool over the IKEA catalog and make a list of decorations that I would buy immediately in my head. But it doesn’t make sense to me, and I only take it as wasted money. Unless the thing is practical, in my eyes it’s just a dust catcher.
What things did you stop buying?
Odkedy som sa začala viac zaujímať o minimalizmus som (pochopiteľne) prestala kupovať mnoho vecí. A z jednoduchého dôvodu – zistila som, že ich nepotrebujem. Žijeme vo svete, kde nám reklamy a marketingové kampane dávajú pocit, že jedine vtedy, keď si kúpime ich produkty, budeme naozaj spokojný – a stačí sa pozrieť napríklad na výrobky, ktoré vám ponúkajú cez teleshopping; a aké hrozné životy majú ľudia, ktorí musia krájať mrkvu obyčajným nožom a ako sa všetky ich problémy stratia v momente, keď si kúpia jedinečný krájač, ku ktorému dostanú druhý zdarma.
Lenže mnohé z týchto vecí k šťastiu a spokojnosti nepotrebujete; a ja nepotrebujem ani mnohé ďalšie, ktoré mne osobne iba zaberajú miesto a nemám z nich dobrý pocit. Je ich dvanásť – a v dnešnom článku vám ich predstavím.

Oblečenie

O tom, že som prestala nakupovať oblečenie, som už písala v článku Oblečenie už nenakupujem. A situácia sa nezmenila – necítim potrebu stráviť celé popoludnie v obchodnom centre a hrabaní sa medzi regálmi. Do obchodu s oblečením idem iba vtedy, keď naozaj niečo potrebujem a nemám za to žiadnu náhradu.

Make-up a laky na nechty

A nevlastním už ani jeden lak.

Kozmetika

Čo sa týka starostlivosti o pleť, používam len päť produktov, a to niektoré len výnimočne. A takto mi to vyhovuje. Už nemám tri pleťové masky, neskúšam rôzne pleťové vody a necítim potrebu testovať kadejaké hydratačné krémy.

Knihy a časopisy
