Nie som dokonalá

I have gotten very passionate about a zero waste lifestyle, minimalism and veganism in recent weeks. Probably every area of my life has changed in this direction – from where and what I buy, to who I’m watching on social media.
In the one of the last blog posts on my previous blog, I said that this blog is a place where I will document my journey through these changes and where will I share my tips. And I’m happy to see where the blog is going, because when I was thinking if it made any sense to completely transform the place I’ve been building for years, I wouldn’t even dream I’ll love this blog so much. I finally found myself in the blogging world and once again I found love in writing articles. I’m exited about these three topics and  you can’t imagine how happy I am that you are interested, too.
But I’m definitely not perfect. I’m not a minimalist, I’m not a picture-perfect vegan and I do not live without producing any waste.
The main reason I’m writing this post is that although this blog has only fifteen articles, I do not want you to think I’m an expert. Because I am not. Even half a year ago I wasn’t as interested in these topics as I am today.
I’m not a minimalist, because I still own dozens of things that I definitely do not need according to a definition of this lifestyle. But I’m a person who bought these things, and I can’t just throw them in the rubbish. I still have five gray shirts because I can’t decide which I should give up because I wear them all. I have three different notebooks, but I also write in them. And we have a full drawer of stationery that someone else would throw away immediately, but I just do not have a heart for it, and I’d rather get rid of it after I it’s not working anymore.
Even veganism is a long journey for me. Vegetarianism was a little easier in this aspect, because a piece of meat on a plate is noticeable, but I didn’t know myself, in which products milk or eggs are hiding. Plant-based diet suits me well, I like to cook and try or make new recipes. When I have the option, I rather choose a vegan alternative. But there are times when I can’t resist. Last week we were at a wedding – and I also had some cake  and cheese. It does not mean that I am going back to animal products, but I do not even consider it a huge mistake I still regret. I’m just a person who wanted a cake during a nice and happy event. So I ate it.
And I still produce waste. And a lot of waste. Every day I try to reduce it, every day I look for alternatives that are better for the environment. But at home we still have dozens of things that are in a plastic wrap or made of plastic, in a basic supermarket you can buy only fruit and vegetables, maybe bread without a packaging. And although we have an amazing zero waste store in Bratislava, they do not have everything. There are days when I’m suddenly hungry at school, or I’m craving my favorite date-cocoa bar. When I took a train a few days back from Prešov to Bratislava, I forgot my stainless steel bottle at home and I could not go without water for a six-hour train trip – so I bought it. In a plastic bottle. I felt bad, because I could have remembered I’d need my bottle later, but again – I’m just a human.
I’m not perfect – and I do not even want it to look like I am. I’m still making mistakes. But I’m learning from them. I’m trying. Because I know it’s worth it.
I, too, feel the pressure on myself. From everywhere I see the importance of reducing waste and rejecting plastics. This pressure gets bigger because I’m trying to write a blog about zero waste. But one post full of facts doesn’t mean I’m a professional.
But if I can forgive myself minor mistakes, you can forgive yourself, too. Forgetting to ask for a drink without a straw will not kill hundreds of turtles. Much more important is that during the next meeting with a friend you will remember and get a drink without it. Every effort counts.
Život bez odpadu, minimalizmus a vegánstvo ma v posledných týždňoch veľmi nadchlo.
No nie som dokonalá. Nie som ani minimalistka, nie som ani ukážková vegánka a ani nežijem bez produkovania akéhokoľvek odpadu.
A stále produkujem odpad. A dosť veľa odpadu. Keď som pár dní dozadu išla vlakom z Prešova do Bratislavy, doma som si zabudla svoju nerezovú fľašu a na šesťhodinovú cestu vlakom som nemohla ísť bez vody – preto som si ju kúpila.
