Pomalá móda pri malom rozpočte

I already wrote two blog posts about brands that focus on producing ethically and sustainably made clothes. Everlane, Reformation, People Tree or Creéme sound great — their pieces are made of certified materials, while making sure that they have the lowest impact on the environment, and their employees have a fair salary. The biggest disadvantage, however, is the price of clothing.
We have become too used to the fact that clothing is cheap. Even our parents remember times when shopping for clothes was not considered a leisure activity, when the wardrobe consisted of only a few pieces, and when each hole first received a patch and a new replacement was purchased only when it was really necessary. But with the advent of fast fashion, which gave us the feeling that it was a shame to walk two seasons in the same things, to have only ten pairs of shoes and to wear the same piece twice on special occasions, our perception of clothing changed completely. Prices dropped significantly, and we did not mind that the quality dropped, too — at least we have an excuse to buy new clothes.
That’s why clothing from slow fashion brands seems expensive. However, if we look at where this money goes, the final amount is understandable — the fabric is from sustainable and responsible sources, more environmentally sound practices are used in production, and employee wages are not far below survival. However, since we are still used to fact that a T-shirt costs two euros and pants about five, and wanting to show what we are through clothing, it’s hard to put money for ethical and sustainable fashion. Therefore, today I want to share with you some of my tips on how to support slow fashion with a low budget.

Invest in basics

Every minimalist or capsule wardrobe is based on a few pieces that are timeless, simple and easy to combine. These include white and black t-shirts, white blouse / shirt and well-fitting jeans. Therefore, it’s worth investing in these things. Money will quickly come back — because you buy clothes that are made of comfortable materials, great quality and you’ll feel good in them.
Let’s take a basic white T-shirt without print — you can buy it on Everlane for 17.00 €, which is not that much. For classic trousers the price is around 80 €. And white blouses cost up to 50 €. The point is that the price of the pieces that form the basis of the wardrobe and which you wear regularly, is not at all as high as it seems to us— and it really pays off for that quality.
The same goes for underwear. Yes, I know, it’s expensive. But that’s just because we’ve got used to the fast-fashion underwear, where one panties costs one euro, and that’s exactly what they look like. After the second wash, the threads start to pop out from each side and the colour doesn’t even resemble the one we bought. High-quality underwear can work wonders — and although nobody sees it, it will give you confidence, make you feel good, and above all, it will be several times better for your body. So invest a few euros more in it.

Second hand

Today you will find a good thrift store on every corner. Not everyone has patience and time, but you can buy clothes that are well-preserved and at a great price; and revive your wardrobe. But you will have to accept the fact that you’ll often leave empty-handed, which many see as a disadvantage — but this way you’ll really decide what you actually need. And you won’t buy useless stuff.

Wear again and again

Where did the idea that we can’t wear the same thing we already wore for an event come from? Is the goal to convince that we have enough money to never go out in the same clothes? This whole culture, which has been born over the last decades, is a complete disaster — not just for our wallet, because buying new clothes for a wedding, family celebration or graduation is not a cheap thing, but mainly for the nature. Moreover, such clothes only sit in the closet — we don’t want to throw it away because we only had it once, but at the same time we don’t want to wear it again, because everyone has seen us in it before. So please forget this whole idea, and we wear the clothes for which you paid the money. Wear what you like; no matter if you wear it thirty times. And let’s focus on more important issues instead.
Finally, I would like to remind you that the point of slow fashion is to wear what we already have at home. Learn how to work with fewer pieces in your closet and try a capsule wardrobe — it will change your view on fashion and clothing in general. And please don’t buy clothes you don’t need. It’s not good for anyone.
Ceny výrazne klesli, a nám ani nevadilo, že s tým klesla i kvalita — veď aspoň máme zámienku kúpiť si nové oblečenie.

Investovať do základov

Medzi nich patrí napríklad biele a čierne tričko, biela blúzka/košeľa či dobre padnúce rifle.
To isté platí o spodnej bielizni. Kvalitná spodná bielizeň dokáže divy — a hoci ju nikto nevidí, dodá vám sebavedomie, dobrý pocit, a hlavne bude niekoľkonásobne lepšia pre vaše telo. Tak do nej investujte o pár eur viac.

Z druhej ruky

A nebudete kupovať zbytočnosti.

Nosiť znova a znova
