Prečo byť minimalistom

First and foremost – of course, I’m not forcing anyone to think that they MUST be a minimalist. Nobody has to be. But over the past few months (or last year), I’ve started to focus on minimalism more than ever before – and trust me when I say I’ve seen more than a hundred different videos and read the same number of articles on this topic. This lifestyle has impressed me immensely and I still can’t get enough of it.
Therefore, I think that everyone should be a minimalist – at least in a certain form. The minimalism is not about living in a small flat between bare walls, sleeping on a mattress laid on the floor and having a wardrobe consisting of two T-shirts and one trousers. Even if such a living style suits someone, it doesn’t mean that that’s perfect minimalism. But about that another time. Today, I want to tell you why I think each of us should be a minimalist.

For yourself

Minimalism eliminates unnecessary stress. If you’re always looking for something, you don’t know where you put something and you simply lose track of what you own, it’s a clear sign that you need to clean up your room or home. Only a few can work and concentrate on important things when they have everything covered by uselessness. A mess not only creates anxiety because it causes chaos, but makes life difficult overall – one then has too many things to clean around; as clothes that often only take up space in the closet, books, photo frames, and decorations that collect dust, or all the useless things we’re hiding in the cupboards to keep them out of the way.
Minimalism helps to shift attention to what matters. With this lifestyle, which is based on just possessing what we really need, we see only the things that are a priority. It greatly simplifies the search for things (because you can’t lose something when you don’t have a place to lose it) and evokes a feeling of lightness and airiness.

For the planet

We are a consumer society. And when I look around, I’m sick of how far we got. Instead of what’s important, we focus on how many things we own, and especially – whether we own more than the people around us. We have hundreds of things that we only keep if somehow a situation when we need it comes. Because it was given to us ten years ago and we don’t want to break their heart by throwing it away or giving it to someone elser (although we’re fully aware that person doesn’t even remember that they ever gave us that).
Minimalism means not buying useless stuff. Therefore – buying only what we really need. Which then, of course, reduces demand. If we all stopoed buying so many clothes, the fast fashion chains would have to reduce the amount they produce because we wouldn’t be so interested, and the water and cotton consumption would be reduced. If we stopped buying so much food, half of the refridgerator wouldn’t end up in the bin every week because we can’t eat it all. If interest in many products were reduced, they wouldn’t end up in the landfill (because they wouldn’t have been made) and wouldn’t harm the environment and our planet.

For the future

The fewer things we buy, the less money we spend. And what does that mean? That this saved money can be invested in something more important. As is quality clothing that has been ethically made. Products for everyday use in kitchen or bathroom that are from renewable sources. Things that don’t break down after the second use. But especially we can use them for experiences. To travel the world, visit interesting countries and cities, museums and galleries, concerts and theaters.
Having fewer things also offers more space to focus on what we care about – such as hobbies or a dream career. But following the previous point – thanks to minimalism we can at least help our planet a little. And it needs it.

Ak by sme prestali kupovať toľko jedla, neskončila by chladničky každý týždeň v koši iba preto, lebo to nestíhame jesť. Ak by sa znížil záujem o mnohé produkty, neskončili by potom na skládke (lebo by ani neboli vyrobené) a nepoškodzovali životné prostredie a našu planétu.

Pre budúcnosť

Čím menej vecí kupujeme, tým menej peňazí míňame. A čo to znamená?
