Zero waste alternatívy, ktorú sú zadarmo

For a long time, I have been trying to reduce the number of disposable items I use, I recycle, and I throw nothing on the ground. But I have become interested in a zero waste lifestyle recently – and the more tips on alternatives that do not harm the environment I saw, themore I wanted to get into the store right now and get it all. This is a bit unrealistic for a number of reasons, but while reading articles on this topic, watching videos and seeing things around me, I came across a number of alternatives that can be categorized under zero waste as they do not produce any waste, but at the same time they cost nothing at all.

Stop boredom shopping

Going shopping as a free time activity is allready a pretty common hobby – families with kids go shopping on Saturday after lunch, friends after coffee. Besides the fact that we waste money on clothes that we do not even need, we are destroying the environment. More than 26 billion tons of clothing end up in landfills every year, and at home we have closets filled with pieces that we bought on sale and we did not wear them once. As a family, try to figure out another way to spend a weekend, and with your friends go to the park, to the exhibition, to the excursion or just to go out for a walk.

Don’t buy plastic bags

Most of us, before going grocery shopping, will prepare a list – and in addition to a small piece of paper, prepare a few bags as well. If you do not have fabric bags, do not worry – you can use again and again plastic ones that you got or bought earlier. Most of them are strong enough to handle even a hundredth shooping trip. You save not only money but also the environment.
The same is goes with plastic baggies – when you come home and take out tomatoes or peppers, instead of throwing them away, put them aside – and you can use them again for the same purpose.

Use tea towels

Paper towels can be found in every household today – as well as table cloths. A pack of two table cloths costs the same as disposable paper towels – but cotton cloths can last you a lot longer, and if they are 100% cotton, you can compost them. You do not have to use them only for drying dishes – but also for wiping or instead of paper napkins. If you pack school lunch or snack every day, aluminum foil, cling wrap or napkins will substitute a fabric alternative you can wash if needed and use it again.

Refuse the straw

Every day we throw out a billion straws. And since they are non-recyclable, they all end up in the ocean. There are a number of alternatives – stainless steel ones, glass, bamboo or plastic straws, which you can use repeatedly, but the easiest is not to use them at all. Its just a myth that they protect your teeth – the fluid will get your teeth at least from the inside, and if you’d like to avoid it, you’d have to put a straw behind your tongue. In restaurants or cafes, just ask that you want the beverage without a straw – and although it happened to me that they had forgot about it and brought a straw to me, everyone was willing to satisfy me.

Bring your own water

Throwing a water bottle with your handbag or backpack is simple and effective. If you know you will be away for longer than hour, you will certainly need to drink som water – so instead of buying a packaged drink in the store, pour some water, tea or juice you already have at home, in your old bottle.
And carrying a full bottle that adds extra pounds to your backpack is effective – it will make you drink it faster.

Don’t throw out, reuse

Many things we’re used to throwing in the trash as soon as we are done with them, we can reuse. If you wipe a few drops of water with a paper towel, put it on the side, maybe a few minutes later you will spil something again, on smaller pieces of paper like receipts you can write on the other side, jars from jams or pickels are easily washable and you can use them to store things in your kitchen. From old clothing, bed linen or towels, you can easily and quickly make cleaning cloths. Just be a little creative.
For a very long time, I thought that the transition to a zero waste lifestyle must be not only difficult, but especially expensive. In this article, I mentioned only six simple ways to reduce the amount of waste at home, but there are many more alternatives – and they won’t cost a penny.

Nenakupuj z nudy

Balenie dvoch látkových utierok stojí rovnako ako jednorazových kuchynských – no utierky z bavlny vám vydržia oveľa dlhšie a stopercentnú bavlnu môžete skompostovať. Ak si desiatu každý deň balíte, alobal, potravinovú fóliu alebo servítky nahratí látková alternatíva, ktorú podľa potreby vyperiete a môžete ju použiť znova.

Odmietni slamku

Nos so sebou vodu
