Ako dôkladne vytriediť šatník?

About a month ago, you could read the article Declutter with KonMari on the blog, where I told you about Marie Kondo and her profession, along with the tidying method she invented, which is called KonMari. The first item you should start with is clothing – mainly because most people have much more clothing than they need, and it’s also easy to get rid of old pieces that you no longer wear as if you started with sentimental childhood things where you know you don’t have to have them at all, yet you can’t get rid of them.
I would like to focus more on the topic of tidying clothes. I myself have done a big cleaning up in my closet three times in the last three years – and every time full bags of clothes went out. Although among tidying books, documents, miscellaneous and sentimental things are clothes the simplest category, it can sometimes be difficult – especially if you don’t know where to start, how to proceed, what to watch out for and how to succeed. And I will tell you about it in today’s article.

Everything out

Marie Kondo also stresses that if you want to tidy effectively and properly, you must start by taking out everything from the closet. Completely everything. The hanging bars, shelves and baskets must be left empty. Only then will you see how much clothes you really have.
However, one thing I recommend doing from the beginning is that when removing things from the closet, put the same or similar pieces on one pile. If you have T-shirts both on hangers and folded, put them together. It’ll be much clearer; and having all the sweaters together makes it easier to decide which ones you want to keep and which ones can go.

Yes and no

Seeing all the clothes on one pile looks overwhelming. But you don’t have to worry. Right from the start, pick out five things you want to keep. Your favourite blouse that you could wear even every day, great-fitting jeans, flowered dress, thanks to which you can not wait for summer. Think about why you like these pieces. Mostly the answer is that you like them, you feel good in them and that it’s your style.
If you have five things you’re keeping, pick another five pieces that can certainly go away – and look for things that you haven’t worn in years, are destroyed and damaged, or they no longer fit. It’s much easier to say goodbye to clothes that you no longer have a relationship with, than to those that carry memories or feelings.

Right approach

Deciding on some pieces of clothing will be easy, while others will take a while. But it’s important that you take every single thing in your hands, hold it, and think about it.
  • Do I feel good in it?
  • Is it my style?
  • Do I have something to wear it with?
  • Is there an opportunity or event where I can put it on?
If the answers to all four questions are immediate and unequivocal yes, then you don’t have to think about anything. But surely you also have clothes in your closet that are practical, but you don’t feel comfortable in them; or things that are comfortable, but you have nowhere to wear them. But don’t make the mistake of putting such clothes on the “keep” pile immediately. Once you have spent the energy to get here, don’t step back. Rather, think about the piece again. Try it on. Think of a couple of outfit combinations to wear it with. Especially the moment you put on the piece is sometimes crucial – and it helps you to see if it’s really worth keeping it at all.

Storing

Of course, before you put your clothes back in the closet, clean the shelves and hangers from dust.
Proper folding of clothes is the key to success. When you learn how to fold T-shirts, sweaters and pants to look nice to the eye, you’ll no longer have the heart to throw something in the drawer just like that. In addition, you’ll avoid unnecessary wrinkles  or “losing” pieces.
Divide the clothes that ended up in a “no” pile into three parts – pieces that have had their time a long time ago (you can hand them over a recycling centre), things you can donate to a charity (research which centre) and those you wants take clothes in your area) and those which you want to sell on Facebook, Instagram, or specialised sites, or bring them to clothes SWAP and exchange them for new pieces.
If I can give you two more tips on how to declutter your closet, the first will be to take enough time to do this and don’t hurry anywhere; and the other is to stay and not give up. As I mentioned before, decluttering can be overwhelming, and somewhere in the middle of the process you’ll get to the point where you’ll be fed up with it and you’ll want to shove everything back to your closet as it was before – but don’t do it. Take a short break and continue. The feeling of success at the end is priceless.
Ja sama som v priebehu posledných troch rokov až trikrát uskutočnila veľké upratovanie vo svojej skrini – a zakaždým von putovali plné tašky oblečenia. Hoci spomedzi upratovania kníh, dokumentov, rozmanitých a sentimentálnych vecí je kategória oblečenia najjednoduchšia, predsa to niekedy môže byť ťažké – najmä ak neviete, kde začať, ako postupovať, na čo si dávať pozor a ako uspieť. A o tom vám poviem v dnešnom článku.

  • Mám to k čomu nosiť?

Ukladanie

Samozrejme, ešte predtým, než začnete oblečenie ukladať späť do skrine, police a vešiaky zbavte prachu a vyčistite ich.
