Digitálny minimalizmus

Minimalism doesn’t mean bare walls and no furniture. Minimalism is an entire lifestyle that involves much more than just the style of living – it is also in clothes, cooking, even in the digital world; and in this area I would like to look into with you today.
I don’t even have to use the word “almost” – we all use a cellphone, notebook, computer or tablet every day. Most of us begin and end the day with a lit-up screen but we often forget that these little helpers sometimes need a bit of “clean up”. We only accumulate various applications and documents, because larger and larger internal memories simply allow us to do so, and therefore we don’t see how much we actually hold in our hand.
Minimalism can also be easily transferred to the digital world – and believe me that that’s one of the best changes you can do at the beginning of the new year.

Laptop/Desktop

Clean your desktop. We use to save all of the important files we are currently working on and which we need to keep our eyes on here, but this space quickly changes into a small landfill – and you have no idea what’s where. And when a nice and clean desktop welcomes you at work, it only gives you motivation.
This leads me to another point – sort out what you need into folders. But try to be precise and specific, because it has no sense to have two thousand files in the “school” folder. You will quickly find out what system works best for you. Besides the fact that important files won’t be all over the place anymore, you’ll be able to find what you need in seconds.
After this big cleaning, remember to empty out the rubbish bin. We often forget about it, but files moved to the trash are as if moved to another folder and still occupy disk space. If you are sure that you will never need any of these files, in the right corner is a button to empty it out.

Phone

Delete everything you don’t need and don’t use. You surely have hundreds of photos from which you have duplicate images (and often not only two, but there are ten) – choose the best one and remove the remaining ones. Do the same with music – go through your playlist and throw away everything you no longer listen to and don’t like anymore; and this also applies to streaming services such as Spotify and playlists that you don’t return to. This list also includes various pdf files, downloaded documents, eBooks and especially apps that you haven’t opened for several months. If you need them, you will download them again.
Turn off your notifications. You only need to know if you have a missed call or someone has sent you an SMS but the world won’t fall apart if your screen doesn’t light up every time someone posts a photo on Instagram. Endless incoming notifications are unnecessarily disruptive.

Online

Empty your inbox. We all open only important emails and spam and ads only accumulate, for many the number of unopened emails can be up to several thousands. But with such a quantity, you can’t even know if some important information haven’t got lost somewhere. It may take a long time, but it’s worth it – move all the unnecessary mails to the bin (you don’t even have to open them or read them). And do not forget to empty it!
Most of these emails are subscriptions that you signed up for years ago. If you don’t care about thier content anymore and you never open them, unsubscribe from them. Under each such mail is “Unsubscribe“, on which you simply have to click and a similar email will never find its way into your inbox again.
Another kind of such emails may be some information associated with profiles you no longer use. If you ever set up an account at any e-shop you no longer want to order from, or on sites and networks you no longer need to know if you can get in, delete them. It takes just a moment.
Go through all pages you follow on social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, and so on. You surely don’t care about a page as “We Love Dogs” anymore, which oyu liked eight years ago. It is possible that it doesn’t post anything anymore, so you don’t even know that you have saved it, but it’s seen by the people who are viewing your profile. Unfollow from on profiles that aren’t active anymore, but maily re-evaluate what really interests you on social networks. One thing is to support someone because you are interested in their life and they motivate you, the other is to follow someone who awakes jealousy in you and you feel bad after about yourself after looking at their profile.
Plus, by following hundreds of different people, we often spend half an hour going through the entire feed to get to the posts which we saw the last time. The fewer people you follow, the less time you spend on the social media.
Minimalism is also the limitation of the time we spend with a phone in our hand. I confess myself that sometimes I totally get swallowed up by “explore page” and scroll for half an hour, but lately I have been trying to reduce this time. If you have not already seen it yet, Instagram has introduced a new feature that sets you a timer every day on your chosen number of minutes, and after a time is passed, you will see a warning that you have completed your daily limit. You can find this feature in the left menu on your profile under “Your activity“.
It is clear that you will not clean and minimize your digital world during one bus ride. It takes time. And most importantly, it takes time to learn not to download everything that we see, not click on one video after another, not to scroll for hours. As I said before, it’s worth it – because even though the phones make our lives easier, they alse often encroach us of our time.
Minimalizmus neznamená len holé steny a žiaden nábytok.
Iba hromadíme rôzne aplikácie a dokumenty, lebo čoraz väčšie a väčšie vnútorné pamäte nám to jednoducho dovoľujú, a preto nevidíme, koľko zbytočností držíme v ruke.

To ma vedie k ďalšiemu bodu – to, čo potrebujete, roztrieďte do priečinkov.

Mobil

Vymažte všetko, čo nepotrebujete a nepoužívate.

A kôš tiež nezabudnite vyčistiť!
Trvá to skutočne len chvíľočku.
Určite vás už nezaujíma stránka ako “Milujeme psíky“, ktorej ste dali like pred ôsmymi rokmi.
Chce to čas.
